Sugar Glider Treats – Recipe

After being disillusioned with the availability of healthier treats for gliders (you know, treats that aren’t basically sugar), I decided to try to make my own.
And in this post I will share my recipe.
You will need a dehydrator.
I use this one: NESCO Snackmaster Pro Food Dehydrator

I dehydrate them for 7 hours and 45 minutes at about 145-150 degrees. Usually closer to 150.

Recipe:
-1 5.3oz container of regular yogurt (I have pictured different ones I have used near the end of the post)
-1/4 cup Drinkable yogurt (I always use Siggi’s in vanilla or strawberry)
-1/4 cup of all purpose unbleached flour

Procedure:
-I put the three ingredients in a bowl and mix them with a spoon.
-After they’re fully mixed, I pour the mix in a ziploc bag, I cut a small hole on an edge and start making the dots.
-Lastly, I dehydrate them at about 145-150 degrees for 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Make sure to make the treats a good size. If they’re too small and thin they’re likely to become extremely brittle and, well, you’ll have to throw them away.

The treats might be bit sticky. Especially if using yogurt with fruit.
These ones in particular were not sticky at all (I used Liberté phillipine coconut and Siggi’s vanilla for the yogurts). They did become a bit sticky later. But I accidentally left the container open and the stickiness decreased.

Sticky or not, your gliders probably won’t care. lol

Here are some of the yogurts I have used (I have stuck to these brands but have tried other flavors not pictured).
Lately, for the regular yogurt, I’ve been using the whole milk Liberté brand ones because I haven’t been able to find the Stonyfield plain one. And well, they’re whole milk too and have fruit so, why not? XD
The Liberté are 5.5oz but I have found it doesn’t make a difference in the recipe.
Not all yogurts are created equal so I would definitely suggest using the healthier yogurts.
Also, avoid all artificial sweeteners.

Anyway, all my gliders have loved all the flavors so hopefully yours will too.

Here are three of my gliders enjoying some:

  1. i have a question not sure how to message you but is there any way i could use an oven or would it ruin it?

    • I have not done it but I don’t believe you can. The only way I have seen a similar treat done with an oven is using powdered yogurt. I have never done it nor used powdered yogurt so I can’t really help with that.
